New year, new profile?

emo gay man New year, new profile?

Afternoon, men of ManPlay! I hope you’re all relaxed and enjoying being back into the swing of things as the holidays start to feel properly behind us and we look forward to the remainder of the year. It can be tough getting back into the swing of things as December activities have a way of sneaking into January’s agenda as well. If you’re just now recommitting yourself to making sure you have some awesome dates this year, then it’s about time you spruce up your profile to ensure you make that happen. The easiest way to get more hot gay men looking at your profile is to follow some of these quick tips to make sure your profile is putting your best foot forward.

1. Express yourself, but not overly so!

While it’s important to show that you are articulate and have a lot to say, you don’t want to overwhelm the casual visitor to your profile with far too much information. Let’s be honest, when some gays are glancing through these profiles, they are going to be turned off by one that appears as a start to a novel, not a personal ad. Say what you want to say, but succinctly.

2. Show your best picture (and a couple that aren’t your best)

This is the most fair way to show what you really look like. Sure, I get that you want to show off your best side but we’ve all been burned by pictures that are in no way indicative of the person we eventually meet up with. I always suggest a combination of pictures where you look your best and a couple where you don’t, but are more likely what you look like as you’re actually putting the profile together. It’s a good method for you and is respectful of your potential suitors too.

3. Avoid the past as much as possible!

Every potential match should seem like a desirable clean slate. While you might be tempted to mention your past relationships in your profile, this comes across as a giant red flag to potential mates. It suggests baggage, which everyone has of course, but is not something that you want to broadcast initially.

4. Keep it breezy!

Similar to #3, but remember that episode of Friends where Monica kept proclaiming she was breezy, when she was anything but in reality? Here’s a great opportunity for you to actually appear breezy, because that is generally attractive to others and prevents you from seeming desperate, something I’m sure no one wants. Keep your tone light and conversational with your writing, nothing too serious. Make it seem like it would be great if you heard from someone if they like what they see, but apply no pressure.

5. Stand out from the pack

When listing some of your favorite things to eat, do or listen to, make sure the list is current and, hopefully, a bit unusual. No one wants to read that your favorite movie is something that 95% of other members on the site are likely to have listed too. Try to stand out with your choices and make sure that you update your profile as your tastes change too!

How is that for a January fresh start? Anything you completely agree with or disagree with? Any other suggestions? Drop me a line and let me know! And, as ever, happy hunting!
