Hello to all the gay men out there on ManPlay! I hope you’re all having success on ManPlay. I received a ton of great letters today telling me all about the successes you’ve been having meeting hot men off the site and I couldn’t be happier to read them. If you’ve been feeling discouraged with the gay personals, maybe this bit of news will give you the encouragement you need to keep on trucking!
One of my fave out singers, Rufus Wainwright has apparently set the date for his upcoming wedding to Jorn Weisbrodt. Wainwright has certainly been busy lately, both with the national premiere of his opera called Prima Donna (love it!) but also he’s also found time to record a new album coming out in May called Out Of The Game which is produced by none other than Mark Ronson. On a side note, I’m so excited for that album! I love Wainwright AND Ronson and am very curious what they will come up with together. At any rate, he and Weisbrodt have been engaged since 2010 and are the parents to a one-year old but have just set the date for the upcoming wedding with invites reportedly going out telling friends to Save The Date of August 23rd of this year in Montauk, Long Island. I’m very happy for both of them and wish them a lifetime of happiness together!
On the ridiculous side of the spectrum, news broke today that that group One Million Moms that tried to keep Ellen DeGeneres from being the face of JC Penney is at it again! This time they are taking on Archie Comics. Yes, you read that right. They are after Jughead and the gang for a recent issue that features a gay wedding in it. While I applaud this move from the comic, obviously, this group is up in arms and wants it taken from the shelves of Toys ‘R’ Us stores. Read their whole letter below:
“As a mother and a member of OneMillionMoms.com, I am extremely disappointed to learn that select Toys ‘R’ Us stores are now selling ‘Archie’ comic books with a same-sex wedding displayed on the front cover. I am referring to the ones where the front cover reads “Just Married” with two men marrying, one wearing a service uniform.
I am aware that Toys ‘R’ Us employees do not actually set up the displays; they leave this up to the vendor. Your company should be aware of the merchandise being sold in your stores nonetheless. These comic books are displayed at the front checkout counters so they are highly visible to employees, managers, customers and children.
Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to same-sex marriage in your toy store. This is the last place a parent would expect to be confronted with questions from their children on topics that are too complicated for them to understand. Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, which is becoming extremely common and unnecessary.
A trip to the toy store turns into a premature discussion on sexual orientation and is completely uncalled for. Toys ‘R’ Us should be more responsible in the products they carry.
Please remove all the same-sex “Just Married – Archie” comic books immediately from your shelves. My decision to shop in your stores depends on it.
I look forward to hearing from you regarding my concern.”
Hilarious, no?! Thankfully the co-CEO of Archie Comics isn’t backing down. John Goldwater writes: “Riverdale is a safe, welcoming place that does not judge anyone. It’s an idealized version of America that will hopefully become reality someday. We’re sorry the American Family Association/OneMillionMoms.com feels so negatively about our product, but they have every right to their opinion, just like we have the right to stand by ours.”
What do you make of all this, daters? Be sure to write and let me know and discuss with the other members in the chat rooms of ManPlay too!
