Good afternoon to all the hot gay men out there! I hope you all had a fun and sexy long weekend. As it was a long weekend, you got an extra day to catch up on the Oscar-nominated films you might have missed thus far. With the Oscars mere days away, it’s time to get your party-planning in high gear if you’re hosting an event on Sunday. We previously mentioned some ideas about making your own ballots to spice things up, but here are a couple more ideas.
Forget the cold weather and make yourself some of these time-tested watermelon margaritas, courtesy of the hostess with the mostest, Ms. Martha Stewart herself. They are super easy to make too and you can put some gold stickers like stars or trophies on the cups to make them more festive for the occasion.
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 wide strips orange zest
- 12 ounces watermelon cubes (about 2 cups)
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
- 3/4 cup white or silver tequila
- Lime wedges
In a small saucepan, bring sugar, water, and orange zest to a boil over high. Reduce to a simmer and cook until sugar dissolves, 3 minutes. Let syrup cool in a bowl. In a blender, puree watermelon cubes until smooth. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on solids, into a pitcher (you should have about 1 cup juice). Stir in syrup, lime juice, and tequila. Fill salt-rimmed glasses with ice, then pour margarita mixture over top. Garnish with lime wedges.
They’re very easy and delicious. With a ceremony as long as the Oscars are, there will be plenty of times when you can get up and make yourself another batch. Have everyone bring a different appetizer that you can serve throughout the night while you watch and play the games that you created. Someone can bring a type of party popcorn mixed with the spices of their choosing. I would suggest a combination of marjoram and paprika. It might sound strange but someone brought it to an Oscar party I attended one year and it was delicious. Someone else can bring some baked pita chips sprinkled with thyme and rosemary for a simple snack that will have your friends thinking it involved way more preparation time than it did.
